Poem #2 On International Autism Acceptance Day or World Autism Awareness Day---Autism Speaks theme today is always "Light It Up Blue!" Meaning light up the world to make them aware that 1 in 50 children now are diagnosed with autism and 80 percent or higher are boys. That is why they chose the color blue. My son with autism spectrum disorder is 7 now.

The Light of Blue
Blue, the color of sadness,
Is the first thing that hits
Yes, sadness is the first wave
Blues can be angry
The second wave more powerful than the first
Where you surf on notes
The hang time can be incredible on this ride
The dark blue of depression
Being drowned in an ocean of overwhelmed
Feelings coming up from every corner
To take a microscope to the past
A hatchet to the future
Not getting out of bed for the moment
Until a sigh so very deep beyond your toes releases
And you cry blue
The light blue tears
Washing the blue
Clean, clear to crystal moments
So pure to see what needs to be done
Today to move forward
To gain a skill
Find a word
Have a moment of joint understanding
Is like the blue skies opening up
Where we’ve learned to enjoy
The flight patterns of us both.
