I don't know if this is where this scene should go, but I'm just letting it go there tonight. We'll see what I can map out on my day off tomorrow. Here it is in the raw.
PATTY
If we are going to get
on with the game and win the million dollars, we have to tell them.
MARIE
This Janis is your contact and she has a shipment worth a million dollars? A million dollars could go a long way in the war effort. Where is this, Janis?
GABRIELLE
Crazy Americans! Is
that why you are here? One of those reality television shows? All of these…this
tonight…actors…sound effects….you spare nothing for these programs and drag
everyone with you if we want to be a part of your entertainment or not. I do
not give you permission. I know how this works. Million dollars. For who? For
you? Why don’t you even know who these actors are supposed to be
representing? You had me with Jim Morrison. I thought, “My God, the ghost of
Jim is real, but what is Janis doing here?” Janis Joplin never lived in Paris, and who knows where she died.
PEARL
Landmark Motor Hotel in
Hollywood.
GABRIELLE
Oh, so you do know! But
for a million, you couldn’t study some French history? You came, typical
Americans, unprepared.
PATTY
No, that’s not it. This
isn’t part, at least I don’t think all of this is part of our game, and we
aren’t on television.
GABRIELLE
I thought Americans did
everything on television.
PEARL
Nearly.
MARIE
What is this
television?
GABRIELLE
Very clever. The actors
know their parts.
SARAH
Bien sur! That is life
in the theatre!
GERTRUDE
Artist, sure. Not made
for the stage. A rose is a rose is a rose is a rose.
PATTY
Think about this: why
would any of these people be here even if they were actors? What clues are they
giving? What is happening?
PEARL
Maybe this is like Thailand, where the street vendors gave us clues.
MARIE
Has Thailand joined
forces with Japan in the war?
PATTY
What war?
MARIE
The Great War.
